LVNs

LVNs seeking to become IV Certified in the state of California must meet the requirements of the Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians. Once completing a vocational nursing program, you may take IV Certification. You do not need to have your LVN license before taking IV Certification. However, you will not receive IV Certification until you receive you LVN license. LVNs must complete 36 hours of training by and approved IV Certification / Blood Withdrawal provider by the California Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians.

Prior to attending our IV Certification / Blood Withdrawal course you must first complete our 27 hours IV Certification / Blood Withdrawal home study and successfully pass the exam with 80% before participating in the practicum component. LVNs completing our IV Certification / Blood Withdrawal course will receive a total of 36 contact hours.

LVNs must perform two live venipuntures after correct demonstration performed on a manikin to meet the requirements for IV Certification of the California Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians. Participants will perform venipuntures on each other to meet the live venipuncture requirements for IV Certification.

We recommend LVNs take our Advanced Wound Care course together with

IV Certification to take advantage of the huge savings when taken combined

Radiological Technicians

Radiological Technicians must meet the California state requirements and perform 10 venipuntures under direct supervision of a physician or registered nurse at the facility of employment prior to receiving IV Certification.

RNs

RNs do not require IV Certification to deliver IV infusion therapy for patients. RNs wishing to enhance IV skills and gain confidence in delivering nursing care for patients requiring IV infusions will benefit from this course. Course approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing for 8 contact hours.

We also recommend RNs take our Advanced Wound Care course together with

IV Certification to take advantage of the huge savings when taken combined. RNs wishing to enhance knowledge and gain confidence in caring for central venous catheters will benefit from taking our Central Venous Access Devices course.
