Who should take IV Certification?
IV Certification training is designed for LVNs seeking IV Certification, RNs wishing to enhance IV therapy skills, and Radiology Technicians requiring IV Certification to perform venipuntures and deliver IV infusions.

LVNs
LVNs seeking to become IV Certified in the state of California must meet the requirements of the Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians. Once completing a vocational nursing program, you may take IV Certification. You do not need to have your LVN license before taking IV Certification. However, you will not receive IV Certification until you receive you LVN license. LVNs must complete 30 hours of training by and approved IV Certification provider by the California Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians.

LVNs must perform live venipuntures on fellow participants after competent demonstration performed on a blood simulation manikin. Participants must perform live venipuntures to meet the requirements of the California Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians for IV Certification. Class participants who are unsuccessful with the live venipunctures during the class will be allowed to return to one future class at no additional charge, for more hands on experience and a chance to perform the three (3) live venipunctures required for IV Certification. If more hands on is required after attending the second class, additional administrative fees will apply.

Radiological Technicians
Radiological Technicians must meet the California state requirements and perform 10 venipuntures under direct supervision of a physician or registered nurse at the facility of employment prior to receiving IV Certification.

RNs
RNs do not require IV Certification to deliver IV infusion therapy for patients. RNs wishing to enhance IV skills and gain confidence in delivering nursing care for patients requiring IV infusions will benefit from this course. Course approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing for 8 contact hours.
